Puncture is a 3-minute and 48-second video featuring clips of a body being tattooed combined with self-reflective text about ownership, gaze, and power directed at the onlooker. The first 3 minutes consist of abstract close-ups of the needle making incisions on the skin. It's only towards the end that the narrative shifts, revealing that I am tattooing myself rather than someone else, turning it into a performing act. The final shot forms a complete image of the text "this is not for you," which has been tattooed on my leg permanently.

The artwork originated as part of my bachelor essay exploring visual storytelling in relation to gaze and power. I aimed to identify what establishes and deprives power in relation to the one looking and the one being looked at when depicting suffering.
