Mother Dearest is an installation that explores the interplay of memory, addiction and family dynamics. Drawing from Hestenes’ archive and shaped by their mother’s fatal alcohol overdose, the installation presents cheerful photographs laced with undertones. Engraved on plexiglass and housed within Højfeldt’s alter-like steel constructions, it highlights a tension between fragility and permanence, visibility and concealment while hinting at the nature of addiction and the structure of its echo.
